Education Center for Adoptive Parents: Creating Family

Parents

Description

Creating Family prepares parents for the child’s emotional, mental and physical transitions into their families. It addresses the importance of a child’s identity and birth name and what risk factors they may have experienced pre-adoption.
The course helps prospective parents consider the emotional, ethical, financial and legal implications of adopting a child. Finally, it also offers parents opportunities for self-reflection. 6 modules include: Claiming the Whole Story, Self-Reflection and Infertility, Ethics in Adoption, The Emotional landscape, Physical Transitions and Attachment, and Naming an Adopted Child.

Additional videos feature interviews with adoptive parents, adoption professionals and a child psychologist addressing the important issues of Nutrition and Attachment.
No matter how you're adopting, including through foster care, internationally, or adopting an older child, Creating Family is a good resource for parents who are beginning the adoption journey.
Audience: Pre-adoptive parents. Video runtime: 57 minutes
